Ethiopia general inflation rate surges to 35.1 percent in November
Ethiopia’s general inflation rate surged to 35.1 percent in November, according to data released by the governmental Ethiopian Statistics Service (ESS). This is the second straight month Ethiopia’s general inflation rate has increased.
Ethiopia recorded an inflation rate of 31.7 percent in October up from 30.7 percent in September.
The ESS disclosed that inflation for food items has jumped by more than three percentage points to 34.2 percent in November, compared to 30.6 percent in October.
The latest ESS data, also showed non-food inflation is on a continuously increasing trend, reaching 36.5 percent in November, up from 33.4 percent in October.
On a positive note, ESS said vegetables are showing a decline in prices. However, increase in prices of most cereals, pulses, edible oil, fats, meat and milk has resulted in overall increase in food inflation.
In the Non-food part, clothing and footwear, housing repair and maintenance goods, fuel, Khat, Jewelry and Electronics goods prices showed an increase, the ESS report noted.
